Convict Lake Resort
The hiking trails around Convict Lake are nothing short of spectacular. Unlike many of the more strenuous hikes in the area, the trail around Convict has no elevation gain, although there are some moderate up and down slopes.
This is a perfect hike for the less aggressive mountaineers! For those of you looking for more hiking challenges, the John Muir Wilderness Area, which boarders the west shore of Convict Lake, offers a good deal more strenuous hiking to Mildred Lake, Dorothy Lake, and into the High Sierra backcountry.
The Mammoth Lakes Loop, Red's Meadow, Rock Creek Lake and the June Lakes Loop also offer some easy to aggressive hiking trails.
One that is highly suggested takes you from Red's Meadow to Devil's Postpile National Monument.
While you're in the area, you should also hike down to Rainbow Falls on the San Joaquin River. Whenever you take off into the wilderness, it's a good idea to carry water, use a sunscreen and wear comfortable footwear. Be sure to keep your eye out for wildlife and remember to watch out for rattlesnakes.
